Summer Sundays: Logan Square!

doulas+logan+square

Chicago Birth & Baby presents: Summer Sundays, a series covering our favorite family-friendly eats, activities, and events in some of Chicago's most exciting neighborhoods.

This week we're focusing on Logan Square! Logan Square is a rich and dynamic neighborhood, with plenty to do, see, and eat! Here are some of the doulas' favorite family-friendly spots.

Eats

Parsons Chicken & Fish

Parsons boasts high quality, locally sourced ingredients on their delicious menu. Their fried chicken & fish can't be beat (and are kid pleasers too!), and grown ups, don't miss the boozy slush!

Bang Bang Pie

Bang Bang is always a hit - they serve up pie (whole, or by the slice), biscuits (plain, or with a variety of toppings!), and coffee. Their menu is short and sweet, but the offerings rotate based on seasonal availability. The have an amazing side yard with picnic tables, umbrellas, and a grassy area for the kids to play in. They open fairly early, and there's nothing wrong with pie for breakfast!

Miko's Italian Ice

Miko's is literally a window in the side of building on Sacramento Ave, but their Italian ice is the best in the city. They have a rotating menu of flavors and post their offerings on Instagram. Be on the look out for peach in July - it's amazing!

Lula Cafe

My personal favorite and a Logan Square institution since 1999. Lula Cafe was one of the first farm to table restaurants in Chicago, and still has a menu that changes to reflect the season's freshest ingredients.

Damn Fine Coffee Bar

A newer coffee shop located on Armitage Avenue. Perfect for parents who need a pick me up, and kids who need a treat.

Activities & Events

Unity Park

A neighborhood favorite that features a large playground, a water feature, and a grassy area for running around!

Palmer Square Park

Palrmer Square Park has a tiny play area, but it's shady and perfect for a walk with you Miko's Italian Ice in hand.

The 606

The 606 is a 2.7 mile long park and trail system situated on what was formerly the Bloomingdale Train Line. Head up to the 606 with bikes, scooters, or strollers and enjoy this unique park, or one of the six parks it connects with!

Logan Square Farmers Market

The Logan Square Farmers Market is truly a gem. There is something for everyone - fresh, local produce, pasture raised meats and eggs, baked goods, cheese, flowers, and many options for prepared food. Try a Snow Cone , tacos from Cherubs, or an iced chai from Chiya Chai. 10am - 3pm on Sundays.

Shopping

There are so many great places to shop in Logan Square - here are a few favorites!

*play

3109 W Logan Blvd - A well-curated toy store with toys that kids and adults alike can enjoy

City Lit Books

2523 N. Kedzie Blvd - An independent bookstore with a fantastic kids section.

Fleur

2651 N Milwaukee Ave - Fleur showcases some of the best and most interesting flowers you'll find in Chicago. And better yet, they have a lovely selection of gifts and cards in their shop.
